Outstanding in the Field returns to the roof of the Smithsonian Museum of American History to celebrate the 250th Birthday of the USA! The last time we were invited to set our table was also a historic occasion: the Julia Child Kitchen exhibit was revealed as part of 50 Years of Food Transforming the American Table 1950 -2000, which is now a permanent exhibit. Central to the exhibit is a 22 foot communal table, inspired by Outstanding in the Field.
Chef Kevin Tien of Moon Rabbit and Chef Lonie Murdock of ISLA come together as co-chefs for an evening that weaves their culinary stories in equal measure. Chef Tien, a first-generation Vietnamese American raised in New Orleans, is known for cooking that bridges his heritage with the flavors and traditions of the Gulf South—a creative dialogue that has earned acclaim from Michelin and a 2024 James Beard Award finalist nomination for Outstanding Chef. Chef Murdock’s work at ISLA celebrates the vibrant traditions of the Caribbean diaspora, bringing a deeply personal approach to flavor, hospitality, and storytelling through food.
Together, the two chefs will create a menu that reflects the intersections of their backgrounds, influences, and shared commitment to honoring culture through cuisine.

Purchase Policy
Due to the nature of the events, no refunds or credits will be given if the Participant is unable to attend. However, tickets can be transferred to someone else. Please contact us at reservations@outstandinginthefield.com with the new guest’s information at least 24 hours prior to the event, or tell the guests using your reservation to give your name at arrival. Transferring funds for your tickets is your responsibility. In the case of an event being postponed due to circumstances beyond Outstanding in the Field’s control, Outstanding in the Field will reschedule said event and all purchases will be honored for the rescheduled future event date.
