In December 2024, Outstanding in the Field founder Jim Denevan was selected for a month-long artist residency at CAMPO in the small town of Garzón, Uruguay. Alongside creating what may be the world's largest "I love you" drawn in grass, Jim spent his days sharing extraordinary meals prepared by resident chef Eliza Parchanska using produce harvested from the fields of resident farmer Emma Galea.

When not hosting artists at CAMPO, Eliza and Emma spend much of the year growing, cooking, and celebrating the agricultural traditions of Mallorca. Conversation inevitably led to the idea of bringing the Outstanding in the Field table to the neighboring Balearic island of Menorca.

The setting could not be more fitting. At Torre Vella, Fontenille Menorca's agricultural estate, organic vineyards, olive groves, and centuries-old dry-stone walls are woven into a landscape cultivated in harmony with nature. Here, regenerative farming and a deep respect for terroir shape both the land and the table.

As plans for the gathering took shape, Jim discovered that August 12 would bring a total solar eclipse to Menorca at the perfect moment—just before sunset, between the main course and dessert, when guests traditionally rise from the table to stretch their legs and take in the changing light before returning for a sweet finish.

Together, we'll gather around a long table in the Menorcan countryside to celebrate the island's farmers, artisans, and extraordinary landscape. As day briefly turns to twilight and the eclipse unfolds above the Mediterranean horizon, we'll share a meal rooted in place and a moment unlike any other.

There is no other way to say it: this will be Astonishing in the Field.

En diciembre de 2024, el fundador de Outstanding in the Field, Jim Denevan, fue seleccionado para una residencia artística de un mes en CAMPO, en el pequeño pueblo de Garzón, Uruguay. Además de crear lo que podría ser el "te quiero" más grande del mundo dibujado sobre la hierba, Jim pasó sus días compartiendo extraordinarias comidas preparadas por la chef residente Eliza Parchanska con productos cosechados en los campos de la agricultora residente Emma Galea.

Cuando no reciben artistas en CAMPO, Eliza y Emma dedican gran parte del año a cultivar, cocinar y celebrar las tradiciones agrícolas de Mallorca. Las conversaciones inevitablemente llevaron a la idea de trasladar la mesa de Outstanding in the Field a la vecina isla balear de Menorca.

El escenario no podría ser más apropiado. En Torre Vella, la finca agrícola de Fontenille Menorca, viñedos ecológicos, olivares y centenarios muros de piedra seca se entrelazan en un paisaje cultivado en armonía con la naturaleza. Aquí, la agricultura regenerativa y el profundo respeto por el terruño dan forma tanto a la tierra como a la mesa.

Mientras tomaba forma este encuentro, Jim descubrió que el 12 de agosto tendría lugar un eclipse solar total sobre Menorca en el momento perfecto: justo antes del atardecer, entre el plato principal y el postre, ese instante tradicional en el que los comensales se levantan de la mesa para estirar las piernas y contemplar la transformación de la luz antes de regresar para el dulce final.

Juntos nos reuniremos alrededor de una larga mesa en el campo menorquín para celebrar a los agricultores, artesanos y el extraordinario paisaje de la isla. Mientras el día se transforma brevemente en crepúsculo y el eclipse se despliega sobre el horizonte mediterráneo, compartiremos una comida profundamente arraigada en el lugar y un momento verdaderamente irrepetible.
