The meandering approach to this extraordinary property is gradual, as the road turns and peaks emerge. Then you see them: bison, framed by Montana mountains and wide-open sky. The urge is to gape as you realize these indigenous animals are much bigger than expected. Staying safe on the lee side of the range fence, the splendor and serenity of the scene inspires a feeling that this is the way life should be. Away from the city, away from the noise, a place to simply be and grow. Of course, it's a lot of work taking care of these great beasts, sacred to the Native Tribes of North America. Matt and Sarah Skoglund will tell their story of leaving the city and making a new life in Big Sky Country, and maybe a few of those gathered will consider making their own life-changing plans. Chefs Jarrett Wrisley and Candice Lin know a bit about changing things up. After 13 years running restaurants in Thailand, they packed up during the pandemic and road-tripped through the Rockies, eventually settling in Bozeman. Their new restaurant, Shan, showcases distinctly local ingredients with flavors and techniques common in the hillside regions of China and Thailand. Expect Thai flavors with a smattering of Sichuan style and a bit of Japanese Izakaya influence, all while maintaining an undeniable Montana identity.
