Using personal savings, loans, and initial investors, they planted seeds despite the skepticism that surrounded the project. Shortly after getting started, Outstanding in the Field set its first rooftop table here in 2011—and we’ve returned ever since.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1209\" data-start=\"700\"\u003eToday, Brooklyn Grange operates the world’s largest rooftop soil farms across three buildings in the city, providing roughly 80,000 pounds of organic vegetables each year to the New York community. If the sun is shining, we might witness a Stonehenge-like moment: for a brief period in late summer, the setting sun streams between Manhattan’s skyscrapers straight down the middle of the table.
